History

In January 2004 representatives of the Oakwood Healthcare System in concert with Starfish Family Services, Inkster Weed and Seed and members of the local faith community, applied for a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) grant.

By May 2004 a volunteer board of directors had been formed, incorporating community members, non-profit leaders, and healthcare representatives. On December 1st, 2005, the Western Wayne Family Health Center became an official FQHC.   On August 7, 2006, the new WWFHC in Inkster was opened.

The goal of the WWFHC is to provide the community with competent, caring, professional and affordable health care.  In addition to serving the sick, the WWFHC strives to help individuals not to become sick in the first place through health promotion, disease prevention counseling, outreach activities and providing a personalized approach to healthcare needs.
